INTRODUCTION TO DEPARTMENT :

The Department of Food and Nutrition was established in 1996. Food and Nutrition is one of the major subjects offered under the Home Science curriculum. The department focuses on the scientific understanding of food, nutrition, health, and well-being, with an emphasis on promoting a healthy quality of life.The department provides students with comprehensive knowledge offood science, nutrition, diet planning, metabolism, and the role of macro- and micronutrients in the biological, chemical, and regulatory processes of the human body. Through innovative course modules and practical training, students develop the knowledge, skills, and professional competence required for careers in nutrition, healthcare, and community nutrition. The department is committed to providing students with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on learning experiences. Students gain practical expertise through innovative and skill-oriented course modules. The Department of Food and Nutrition actively participates in community-based programmes aimed at promoting nutrition and health awareness among vulnerable sections of society. These initiatives focus particularly on underprivileged communities, young children, and adolescent girls, helping to disseminate important messages related to healthy eating, nutrition, and well-being.

  1. Miss Tanushree D. Tamrakar, student secured 1st prize in Weaning Recipe Contest on the occasion of National Nutrition Month organised by Post Graduate Teaching Department of Home Science Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur, held on 26/09/2025.

  2. Ms. Manaswi Selwatkar, Ms. Trisha Bhonde, Ms. Ruchika Bhongde, and Ms. Janvi Paithane, secured Second Prize in the Regional Food Fair “Aromas and Flavours of India,” organized by the Post Graduate Teaching Department of Home Science, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur, on 30 January 2025.

LABORATORY FACILITY :

The Department covers an area of 84 m² (904 sq. ft.) and has a well-equipped laboratorywith a range of equipment and apparatus. The laboratory provides students with hands-on practical experience, helping them develop essential practical skills and complementing their theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom.
