The department of Food and Nutrition was established in 1996. Home Science curriculum offers food and nutrition as one of its major subjects. Food and Nutrition is a vital science in maintaining the overall quality of life in respect of health and wellbeing. It provides in-depth insight into the food and nutrition for healthy diet planning process for human life cycle. Our students acquire practical expertise and acumen through the innovative course modules. The department library has an extensive and comprehensive collection of books. Apart from that, the Department has a well-equipped laboratory to provide first-hand practical knowledge. The course offered by the department provides a deeper understanding of various metabolic pathways, the role of macro and micronutrients in biological chemical and regulatory mechanism in the body. The Department strives to prepare students for better career opportunities and get into community nutrition and Health Care Centres. To widen the horizon of knowledge, the department holds workshops and guest lectures by eminent luminaries. The department is engaged in community-based programmes for imparting nutrition and health messages to the vulnerable sections of the society such as the under-privileged, young children and adolescent girls.
