INTRODUCTION TO DEPARTMENT:

The department was established in 1996. The subject Home science extension is an applied science which aims at bringing about change in the behaviour of the target group through dissemination of scientific and technical information in the areas of home science. The term Home Science Extension means the type of education which is extended beyond the four walls of classroom to those who have been deprived of formal education for some reason. In this we are extending the knowledge of home science to the ladies in urban and rural areas on home science aspects, i.e. food and nutrition, child care, home management, textiles, care of fabrics, preparing different teaching aids etc. Generally, it brings positive change in the behaviour of individuals in terms of knowledge, skills and attitude. The fundamental objective is the development of the people. When the concept of extension is applied to home science, it is called home science extension. Further, it aims at developing the capacity of individuals mainly involved in farm and home making activities. It also aims at bringing about desirable behavioural changes in people by using various methods of extension.
