INTRODUCTION TO DEPARTMENT :

Department of political science was established in the year 1998. This department runs on grant–in-aid basis. Department has well qualified permanent faculty. Well equipped departmental as well as central library is proving beneficial for students.


The department of political science aims to develop critical thinking, informed citizenship and a global perspective among students. It inculcates the democratic and secular values amongst students. The curriculum blends classical political theory with contemporary issues to understand power, governance and society and world as well. It develops the civic sense of students by learning the Principles and Constitutional values like Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. Through various departmental activities we focus on overall development of the students. To harness the skill of students, various student centric activities like elocution, debate, quiz, rally, poster making competitions and study tour/excursions and the extension activities like Gender sensitization workshop, Human rights awareness program, Voter awareness campaign, exhibition on constitutional values etc. It also boosts up the students to go for the career in Competitive examinations, law, journalism, academics, NGOs, public policy. Overall, department provides the students various opportunities and build their confidence to rise as a responsible citizens and future leaders of India.

RESEARCH AREA :

Dr. Reeta Dhandekar has been awarded Ph. D. degree by R.T.M.Nagpur University for the successful completion of her research topic entitled ’Mahatma Jyotiba Phule ani Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar yanchya Stree Vishayak Vichanranchi Prasangikta’(The Relevance of the Views of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on Women: A Political Science Study).


Ms. Ashwini Pendam is persuing her Ph.D. at R.T.M.Nagpur University on the topic: ‘A Critical Study of the Political Leadership of Scheduled Tribe in Nagpur Municipal Corporation’.


Students of the department are conducting their field project/community engagement activities based on the socio-political issues.
