Introduction to Department :

   The department was established in 1996 under faculty of Home Science for under graduate.B.Sc. Home Science Textile and Clothing is three years degree course which is divided into six semesters. The department of Textile & Clothing is engaged in teaching various trends in fashion. Students are taught clothing psychology, clothing culture and history, fashion marketing, fashion design, fashion illustration. At UG level the basic information about the subject “Textile and Clothing” is given to the students, in which they study about the manufacturing process of natural and manmade fiber, process of making yarn, their qualities & interlacing process. They also study about the process of selection of fabric & various techniques of ornamenting them like dyeing, printing, textile designing, fabric construction & woven fabric analysis. Fashion designing, pattern making, grading, draping fashion marketing & merchandising, etc. are also part of the Syllabus. They gain about Human perception and behavior towards the textile products and global economic trends affecting the textile and apparel marketplace.


HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DEPARTMENT :

  • UGC-sponsored Community College (Fashion Design) Diploma and Advanced Diploma programmes have been offered since the 2018–19 academic session.
  • The department runs a Sewing and Embroidery Training Centre at Narsala, providing practical training and skill development opportunities.
  • The department has consistently achieved excellent academic results.
  • Educational visits are regularly organized to provide students with practical exposure and industry-related knowledge.
  • The department has a well-equipped departmental library with useful reference books and learning resources.

Textile Project : Textile oriented Vocational skills to college going girls-A step towards women’s Empowerment

LABORATORY FACILITY :

  • Sewing Lab - Area of lab is 440 Sq Feet. Equipped with modern tools, Sewing machines, four Embroidery machines and one computerized embroidery machine.
  • Printing and Dyeing Lab – Area of lab is 90 Sq Feet. The dyeing and printing lab is equipped with number of wooden blocks, screens, Stencils and dyes to train the students individually in printing cloth samples by using different styles of printing.
  • Weaving Lab - Area of lab is 176 Sq. Feet. Hand loom, Table loom, and Bobbin winder for preparation of different weaving samples.
  • Computer Lab - Area of lab is 176 Sq. Feet. Ten Computers with CAD CAM, Corel draw and Photoshop software.
