Department Of Microbiology

INTRODUCTION TO DEPARTMENT :

The Microbiology Department was established in the year 1992. It has well spacious laboratories equipped with all infrastructure facilities provided to the students. Department has sophisticated instruments set ups, computers and internet facility as well as departmental library.
The department is providing undergraduate course in Microbiology. The syllabus of under graduate course of RTM Nagpur university, covers various topics like Microbial Physiology, Industrial Microbiology, Medical Microbiology, Immunology, Agricultural and Environmental Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Genetic Engineering, Molecular Biology and Advance techniques in Microbiology. Students are regularly assessed by internal assessment process like Writing and Power Point Presentations of the seminar, Unit Tests and Preliminary examination to make them to face the university examinations.
The Department has good collection of Text Books on Microbiology and other allied sciences. The students are regularly oriented by the visiting faculties of some renowned institutions like Central Institute of Cotton Research (CICR), National Environmental and Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Central India Institute of Medical Sciences (CIIMS), Nagpur and Regional Centre of Organic Farming (RCOF), Govt. of India.
The Department regularly organise Guest Lectures, Seminars, Workshops and Competitions related to Microbiology subject to know the latest updates in the subject.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DEPARTMENT :

  • Students are well acquainted with the subject by organizing study tours and exploring new developments in the Microbiology
  • Two B. Voc. Courses have been recently introduced. i.e. Industrial Waste Treatment Technology (IWTT) and Medical Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostic Technology (MLMDT) from academic session 2018-19 onwards.
  • In each academic year Two Days Workshop is organised on Immunology and Molecular Biology in association with Hi-Media Laboratory to provide hands on Skill and Knowledge on Immunology and Molecular Biology.
  • Centre for COP in Medical laboratory Technology.
  • Department is actively involved in the conducting activities under Microbiology Society of India. The purpose of the formation of society by students is to provide platform for them to explore their ideas related with subject. The society organizes various activities like Guest Lectures, Poster Competition, Rangoli competition etc. Students arrange guest lectures of eminent personalities in the field of Microbiology. This society helps to develop the leadership qualities among the student.
  • Microbiology department offers consultancy services in the field of surface active characterization of biosurfactant using tensiometer, antimicrobial activity of bioactive compounds.
