Bachelor of Vocation in Medical Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostic Technology

INTRODUCTION TO DEPARTMENT :

Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) is a 3-year undergraduate level Bachelor’s Degree course, rather a vocational training program, at par with traditional Bachelor’s Degree courses. It is usually a skill development program that includes extensive training and hands-on experience in a particular field. This new age method of education i.e. UGC sponsored B.Voc. course in Medical Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostic Technology was started at Sevadal Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur in the session 2018-19. The course is designed to improve the skills and employability of the students and concentrates not only on the theoretical knowledge, but also focuses to sharpen the skills and expertise of the students through its practical way of training. The course is largely targeted towards youth who want to enhance their employability opportunities to learn, earn and grow.

The aim of the course is to train the students to become industry ready and give the students excellent opportunity to acquire skills and apply them in the six months internship training which a part of their curriculum. Well qualified, committed and dedicated teaching staff members, well developed infrastructure, enriched library facility, best laboratory facility available in the college and extensive training of the students in various aspects related to Medical Laboratory Technology -turns them into skilled Medical Laboratory Technologists.

Field visits and Guest lectures by experts from industry are a routine practice to add greater dimension to learning beyond classroom teaching. Students are regularly assessed by conducting Unit Tests, Seminars and Preliminary Examination.


HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DEPARTMENT :

  • University Grants Commission (UGC) sponsored and Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) affiliated course.
  • Bachelor of Vocation in Medical Laboratory and Molecular Diagnostic Technology (MLMDT) course is a well rounded course having ‘Multiple Exit Point’ such as Diploma/Advanced Diploma/Degree under the National Skills Qualification Framework(NSQF).
  • The candidates can pursue the course for 6 months, 1 year, 2 years and 3 years. They are also awarded a Certificate, Diploma, and Advanced diploma and finally degree in that pursued specialized course
  • The curriculum of the course is a blend of General Education Component and Skill Development Component that ensures holistic development in terms of Laboratory Skills, Communication Skills and Personality Development.
  • Theoretical and Practical study on Human Anatomy, Phlebotomy, Clinical Biochemistry, Medical Microbiology, Immunology, Serology, Hematology, Blood Banking, Molecular Biology,etc.
  • Regular visits to Pathology Laboratories, Blood Banks and Allied Laboratory.
  • Guest Lectures by Renowned and Experienced persons/ Doctors in each Semester.
  • Six Months Internship in Semester VI.
  • Direct entry into employment sector.
  • Degree holders can pursue their Higher Education in M.Voc. /MCM/M.Sc. or can prepare for Competitive exams and Administrative services
  • Corporate Association with Multi-Specialty Hospital Laboratories, Private & Government Pathology Laboratories, Healthcare Institutes.
  • MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with - i) G. M. Taori Central India Institute of Medical Science & Research Centre, Nagpur and ii) Medequip Enterprises, Nagpur

The well equipped and well managed laboratory of MLMDT is spread in 1260 sq.ft area.All the instruments and equipments required for the course are available.
